Explore the desert regions in Africa, North America, Australia and other continents that have influenced both painters and sculptors through the ages! Find solitude in the vast desert landscape that served as major inspiration for artists such as Georgia O’Keefe, whose paintings expressed the wideness and wonder of her world in the desert region of New Mexico. O’Keefe’s artworks focused on plant life, architecture, scattered rocks, and animal skulls.

- Wayne Art Center staff and volunteers provide a supervised 1/2 hour lunch and play period outside on picnic tables for only Full-Day students. Campers are picked-up from morning art classes, supervised for a half-n-hour of lunch/ play-time. At 12:30, staff escort students from outside and bring them to their assigned studio to start their afternoon art classes. Students are responsible for bringing a packed brown bag lunch (nut-free, please) and water bottle to eat during LUNCH BUNCH.

- Campers dig deep into the history of clay and even deeper into their imaginations as they sculpt decorative and functional ceramics. From rolling slabs, creating coils, and utilizing glazes, this camp involves participants in each step of the ceramics process as they develop ideas from their imagination and eventually place their work into the kiln to be fired. Class projects change weekly to relate to each unique theme inspired by The Art of Nature. This class is one week, runs Monday-Friday, and lasts 2.5 hours with a snack break outside.

- The world of stone carving is at your fingertips! Have fun learning to carve stone using traditional hand and power tools. Students choose a raw piece of soapstone or alabaster on their first day of class. Following step-by-step instructions about basic stone carving techniques, students turn a block of stone into a 3-Dimensional sculpture piece, using hammers and chisels. Camaraderie working with others help students watch and adapt new ideas and techniques; enhancing their knowledge, experience, and understanding of sculpting with stone. All tools and materials are included. Safety glasses will be provided. This class is one week, runs Monday-Friday, and lasts 2.5 hours.

- Create photographs of landscapes, closeups, people and animals. Learn how to use the settings on your camera to get your subject in focus, acquire the exposure you want, and make interesting compositions. A new topic is introduced in the studio each day followed by practice in the Wayne Art Center gardens and on the Radnor Trail. Trips outside introduce campers about how to capture compelling images inspired by The Art of Nature. Image review and critique provide regular feedback. Bring your own DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) or compact camera. Phone cameras do not have the functionality for this class. You need a fully charged battery and a camera card with space to shoot freely every day. This class is one week, runs Monday-Friday, and lasts 2.5 hours with a snack break outside.

Whether just starting or well acquainted to the wheel, this class teaches you tricks and techniques to make functional pots, bowls, cups, and plates.
