Week 2 · A Moment in Time: Art of the Still Life · June 16-20

Paul Cézanne; The Basket of Apples, 1893

A "still life" portrays a collection of everyday objects that are arranged in a visually pleasing way. Objects can be natural or man-made, and the arrangement can be simple or complex. Artists use still life compositions as subjects for a variety of media including drawing, painting, photography, mixed media and sculpture.

Breathe life into your art by selecting and grouping your objects. See how your composition tells a story through just one object or through a display of complex arrangements such as fruit, a vase of flowers or an assortment of everyday items. Learn essential artmaking skills, such as creating shadow, perspective, line, shape, and color while you capture a moment in time.

Artists: Georges Braque, Paul Cezanne, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Giorgio Morandi, Georgia O’Keefe, Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Wayne Thiebaud, Roy Lichtenstein, Francisco de Goya, Sarah Miriam Peale
