December 4, 2009 – January 23, 2010
Davenport Gallery
Craft Forms 2009, our 15th annual international juried exhibition of contemporary craft opened with a Preview Party on Friday, December 4, 2009 in the Davenport Gallery. This year, in conjunction with Craft Forms 2009, the Wayne Art Center is featuring Reflections in Glass, a juried exhibition of contemporary glass. Designed to enhance the public’s awareness of craft, these exhibitions provide a venue where established and emerging artists alike can exhibit their works. Approximately 5,000 visitors experience these renowned venues every year.
It is our great pleasure that Bruce Pepich, Executive Director and Chief Curator of Collections at the Racine Art Museum in Wisconsin, juried Craft Forms 2009. Bruce elaborated that “the pieces in this exhibition become the physical record of the dialogue taking place in the contemporary craft world, as represented by the artists who entered.” In addition, Arlene Silvers, Director of Glass Events at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, assembled a collection of contemporary glass for an accompanying exhibition in the Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Gallery. Arlene expressed “the work demonstrates the immense creativity and wide range of techniques used by today’s glass artists.”
