WAC Faculty & Artist: Heidi Techner

Heidi Techner was born and raised in Philadelphia, and graduated with a BFA in Painting from Carnegie Mellon University and a MS in Interior Architecture from Drexel University. Heidi, an Associate Professor, currently teaches Drawing and Painting courses at Widener University in the Visual and Performing Arts Program (VAPA). Prior to teaching at Widener, Heidi was the Program Director for Interior Design at Harcum College for 18 years. As a compassionate leader and educator, Heidi has a proven record of accomplishment motivating and inspiring students to develop their unique creative interests.

Painting is central to Heidi’s life, providing a meaningful source of fulfillment and expression. “I believe that the practice of painting holds a profound value beyond the final product. It is a human activity, a visceral journey allowing us to express our presence continuously. Through painting, we can fully engage our curiosity and interest, bringing our whole selves into each brushstroke. The process itself becomes a form of meditation, a way to explore our emotions, thoughts, and perceptions. It encourages mindfulness and self-discovery, and connects us more deeply with ourselves and the world around us. In this way, the act of painting transcends mere creation; it becomes a transformative experience that enriches our lives and nurtures our inner growth.”

Inspired by nature, Heidi’s paintings explore the realms of abstraction—manipulating line, form, shape, and color. Her artistic approach is in a state of constant evolution, reflecting her ever-changing temperament. This continuous journey of transformation not only fuels her creativity but also nurtures her mind, body, and spirit. Through her art, Heidi embarks on an unending exploration, where each piece serves as a testament to her growth and connection with the natural world.
