PaperSolo is a collection of works by Patsie McCandless, using an exquisite collection of papers gathered from all over the world.
Self-taught in the fine arts, Patsie McCandless is an award-winning watercolorist and paper artist. After beginning her professional career in watercolor, painting land and seascapes, Ms. McCandless found her true passion in paper arts nearly 20 years ago. Her work has appeared in galleries, arts centers, museums, and private collections throughout North America.
Exhibition Dates: February 19-March 16
PaperSolo Works is a compilation of some of Ms. McCandless’ most intricate paper creations. At first glance, it may appear as if the lively images were created from oil pastels or by layering soft watercolors. Upon closer investigation, the careful thought put into the detailed cutting, tearing, folding, and layering is startling. Each work incorporates multiple papers, and each paper holds its own story, lending a great complexity to the work.
Ms. McCandless’ vibrant storytelling reaches further than her paper art. Author of Becoming Jesse, Celebrating the Everyday Magic of Childhood, Ms. McCandless captivates readers with the story of a six-year-old boy on a quest to find the woman he calls his “disappeared” grandmother. With unflappable determination and imagination, Jesse collects surprising clues, as the world of theater, music, classic literature and gypsy storytelling swirl around him.
