The Wayne Art Center celebrated its “2004 Fall Members’ Juried Exhibition” with an opening reception and awards presentation on Saturday, October 9, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. We’re About 9, a singer-songwriter folk band, performed at the opening reception. The dynamic exhibition will be on display in the Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Gallery through October 27, 2004. Out of more than 190 pieces of submitted work, Juror Anne R. Fabbri selected 59 pieces, representing a broad range of mediums. The show features paintings, works on paper, ceramics, mixed-media pieces and sculpture by current Wayne Art Center members.
Anne R. Fabbri, of Wayne, an independent curator and art critic, juried the “2004 Fall Members’ Juried Exhibition.” Ms. Fabbri writes for Art in America, American Artist and The Art Newspaper. Locally, she contributes regularly to Art Matters and Philadelphia Style Magazine. She is the former director of The Paley Design Center at Philadelphia University (1991–2000), founding director of The Noyes Museum (1982–1991) and former director of the Alfred O. Deshong Museum of Widener University (1979–1982). In addition to organizing shows at these institutions, she has also been guest curator for exhibition for Art in City Hall. Ms. Fabbri commented that “Jurying this exhibition was exceptionally challenging because the entries were of unusually high quality. I could have happily doubled the number of accepted works.” Ultimately, although the process was difficult, 14 prizes were awarded to works in the show.
