Living with Craft Lecture: A Trio of Craft
Nakashima Woodworkers, Chanticleer Garden, and The TileWorks of Bucks County
Saturday, January 24, 2026
1:00 pm
Join architect and furniture maker Mira Nakashima, horticulturalist Przemek Walczak and tile maker Katia McGuirk as they discuss their unique experiences in the world of functional craft.
Mira Nakashima is the creative director of Nakashima Woodworkers, where she continues to produce her father’s classic furniture designs. She also designs and produces her own unique pieces named Keisho, which is Japanese for continuation.
Horticulturist and metalworker Przemek Walczak shares how Chanticleer's gardeners craft functional art that responds to the garden's evolving needs. See how benches, gates, trellises and other metalwork elements are designed specifically for their garden settings, blending utility with the same care and vision present in the plantings.
“ If tiles could tell no story, inspire or teach nobody, and only serve to produce aesthetic thrills, I would've stopped making them long ago." HCM
Executive Director of the TileWorks of Bucks County, Katia McGuirk, who in 2021, formed a not for profit to steward The Moravian Pottery and Tile Works in Doylestown, Pennsylvania will host a show and share of Moravian tiles and talk about the ethos & philosophy behind the making of the tiles by polymath and individualist, Dr. Henry Mercer, from1898-1930 to the craftsman who continue to make the tiles today and into the future.
