Marlene Adler holds a BFA from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and a Master’s degree in Art Education from the University of the Arts. Her initial interest was in studying painting; however, once she discovered printmaking and the art of making handmade paper, she found these disciplines to be much more compatible in enabling the creation of the various textural elements that are an integral part of her creative endeavors. Her work sometimes uses found materials such as stones, wire or string and embed these materials into the surface of my handmade papers. She often combines handmade paper and printmaking to create mixed-media works.
