Since its invention, photography has been used by artists to achieve greater accuracy in their work. However, all too often these days, paintings look like copied photographs. This course will encourage participants to use photography as a reference tool, a creative boost and jumping off point to paint more powerful, authoritative images. Image design and composition will be a focus. This course will demonstrate how to modify and use photography (yours or someone else’s) creatively to achieve one’s desired goals. Historical examples of artists who have used photographic reference for their paintings will be shown and discussed. This course is open to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced.
